Three Killed in Traffic Crashes Over 2025 Memorial Day Weekend, No Boating Fatalities Reported

Jefferson City, Mo. (KFMO) - Preliminary reports from the Missouri State Highway Patrol show that three people died in traffic crashes over the 2025 Memorial Day weekend. The counting period began at 6 p.m. on Friday, May 23, and concluded at 11:59 p.m. on Monday, May 26.

Troopers investigated a total of 182 traffic crashes statewide, resulting in 83 injuries and three fatalities. They also made 78 arrests for driving while intoxicated (DWI). On Missouri waterways, there were three boating crashes but no injuries, fatalities, or drownings reported. No boating while intoxicated (BWI) arrests were made.

The three fatal crashes occurred on Saturday and Monday.

On Saturday, May 24, a 42-year-old woman from Independence, Missouri, was killed after being struck by two vehicles while walking on Interstate 70 in Jackson County.

That same day, a 69-year-old man from Wentzville died in Warren County after his motorcycle was rear-ended during reduced visibility caused by smoke. He was not wearing a helmet.

On Monday, May 26, a 60-year-old man from Catawissa died in St. Charles County when a car crossed the center line and struck his motorcycle head-on. A second motorcycle was also involved. The deceased rider was not wearing a helmet.

No fatalities were reported on Friday or Sunday.

This year’s traffic statistics are an improvement from 2024, when troopers investigated 275 crashes with seven fatalities and 161 injuries. Boating incidents were also down, with zero injuries this year compared to seven last year.

The Highway Patrol continues to urge drivers and boaters to use caution and make safety a top priority, especially during holiday weekends when travel increases.
