St. Francois County Commission Examines Income vs. Inflation

St. Francois Co., Mo. (KFMO) - The St. Francois County Commission is looking for ways to save money to combat rising costs.

Sales tax income for the county has leveled off, and has not grown as quickly as it has in the past. At the same time, inflation has driven costs upward. Presiding Commissioner Harold Gallaher says a possible solution is reducing the number of people within a department who are authorized to make purchases.

County Clerk Kevin Engler says the county isn't the only one facing this issue, but action should still be taken.

The county Auditor's office has been asked to determine the most important problems with the county's current purchasing process. Any changes are expected to happen incrementally.
