Ste. Genevieve County Community Center to Become YMCA Facility Through New Partnership

Ste. Genevieve, Mo. (KFMO) - The Ste. Genevieve County Commission has entered a five-year partnership with the Gateway Region YMCA to assume operational management of the Ste. Genevieve County Community Center.

The transition to YMCA management begins today, with full control expected by November 1, 2025. At that time, the facility will be renamed the Ste. Genevieve County YMCA, and all current Community Center members will automatically become Y members, gaining access to all 24 YMCA locations across Missouri and Illinois.

The county will retain ownership of the Community Center while the YMCA takes over daily operations, including staffing. The Y intends to retain current employees to help maintain continuity and community connection.

“This partnership allows the Y to bring its regional expertise and cost-effective operation to Ste. Genevieve County,” the Commission stated. “It also provides financial relief and ensures a sustainable future for the facility.”

Under the agreement, the YMCA will be responsible for the majority of operational expenses, while the county will continue covering bond payments and major maintenance issues.

A public informational meeting will be held Tuesday, July 16 at 6 p.m. at the Progress Sports Complex for residents to learn more and ask questions.

The Gateway Region YMCA has similar partnerships in the City of Fenton and the City of St. Louis. Its nearest facility to Ste. Genevieve is the Jefferson County YMCA. The Y also operates Trout Lodge and Camp Lakewood in nearby Potosi.
