Six Injured in Fireworks Explosion at Leadwood Celebration

Leadwood, Mo. (KFMO) - A fireworks display turned dangerous Friday night in Leadwood, sending six people to the hospital after a large explosion near Leadwood City Park.

The incident happened around 9:30 p.m. when a private individual was setting off a large display of fireworks. Leadwood Fire Protection District Chief Charlie Lewis says the situation escalated quickly, leading to multiple injuries.

According to Chief Lewis, five people sustained first and second-degree burns, while a sixth person was seriously injured after falling at the park during the commotion. That individual remains hospitalized in serious condition.

Chief Lewis urged the public to use extreme caution when handling fireworks. He says fireworks can be incredibly dangerous, especially when not handled by professionals. 

The investigation into the explosion is ongoing.
