Park Hills Woman in Jail After Allegedly Killing Boyfriend

Washington Co., Mo. (KFMO) - A Park Hills woman is in jail following a reported shooting on Friday.

On October 3, 2025, deputies with the Washington County Sheriff's Office were dispatched to the Mineral Point area following a report of a shooting. Upon arrival, deputies located a 30-year-old man deceased from a gunshot wound to the head. The woman who initally reported the incident, Josie Reed of Park Hills, was taken into custody.

According to a probable cause statement, Reed stated during an interview that the victim had become irate with her and choked her into unconsciousness three times. She also said that the victim had shot at her. Reed then grabbed the pistol and fired one shot at the victim, believing he had not been hit. She then cycled the gun and fired again.

During an interview, Reed showed markings on her body, however, the probable cause statement says no markings were found on her neck that were consistent with being choked. Reed also told responding deputies that the victim had pepper sprayed her and she had shot him while he was reaching for a shotgun.

During a search of the residence, no pepper spray nor the odor of pepper spray was found, and Reed had additionally said the shotgun was not involved in the incident during the interview.

Reed has been charged with Murder in the First Degree, two counts of Armed Criminal Action, Unlawful Use of a Weapon, and Domestic Assault in the First Degree. Her bond has been set at $1 million, cash only.
