Jefferson City, Mo. (KFMO) - Gas prices across Missouri have remained mostly steady this week, giving drivers a brief reprieve from the fluctuations seen earlier this fall.
According to AAA, the statewide average for a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline sits around $2.85, a slight decrease of about two cents from last week. Compared to one month ago, prices are relatively flat, and they remain roughly 20 to 30 cents cheaper than this time last year.
Analysts say the stability comes as fuel demand continues to ease with the end of the summer driving season, while crude oil prices have also leveled off in recent weeks. Locally, the lowest price is $2.46 per gallon.
Experts say that moderate demand and stable crude oil prices are helping keep prices in check for now, but note that global factors could still lead to changes at the pump. Rising geopolitical tensions, especially involving oil-producing nations, have the potential to affect fuel costs in the coming weeks.
Seasonal refinery maintenance and transportation expenses could also impact regional prices.
