Leadwood Receives $100,000 in Clean Water Engineering Grants

Leadwood, Mo. (KFMO) - The city of Leadwood has been awarded two $50,000 Clean Water Engineering Report grants from the Missouri Department of Natural Resources (DNR). The funding will help city leaders evaluate needed improvements to the community’s wastewater collection and treatment systems.

One of the grants will be used to study ways to reduce stormwater infiltration into sewer collection pipes, which can overwhelm wastewater systems during periods of heavy rain. The second grant will support an evaluation of upgrades to ensure the city’s wastewater treatment plant can meet permit requirements and continue serving residents reliably. The plan for these improvements is expected to be completed by February 2027.

The grants come through DNR’s Clean Water Engineering Report Grant program, which provides funding to help Missouri communities assess and improve wastewater infrastructure. According to DNR officials, the program supports both current system needs and future community growth.

“Investing in local water infrastructure is not just about improving wastewater systems,” said DNR Director Kurt Schaefer. “It’s about revitalizing communities as we fulfill our mission to protect public health and the environment.”

DNR says funding is provided through its Financial Assistance Center and is supported in part by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
