Dangerous Heat Advisory in Effect for Parts of the Parkland This Weekend

Park Hills, Mo. (KFMO) - A Heat Advisory will be in effect from noon Friday through 8 p.m. Monday for portions of the Parkland, including St. Francois, Jefferson, Ste. Genevieve, and Washington Counties, as dangerous heat is expected to grip the region.

The National Weather Service warns that heat-related illnesses are possible, especially for vulnerable populations such as young children, the elderly, and those without adequate cooling. Heat index values are forecast to top just above 100 degrees on Friday, climbing to between 105 and 110 degrees for much of the rest of the advisory period. Areas outside the advisory are expected to see heat index readings near 100 degrees Friday, and around 104 degrees through Monday.

The scorching stretch is being fueled by a warm front moving through early Friday, ushering in hot, humid air. Daytime highs will reach the mid to upper 90s, with little chance of thunderstorms to provide relief until at least Monday. Forecasters say confidence is high that the hot and humid weather will continue through Monday, but the end of the heat is still uncertain. If Tuesday trends warmer, the advisory could be extended.

Residents are urged to take precautions, limit time outdoors, and stay hydrated during the prolonged heat.
