West County Bulldogs Stun Farmington Knights with Six-Run Sixth Inning

Park Hills, Mo. (KFMO) – The West County Bulldogs used a six-run bottom of the sixth inning to overcome a 7-2 deficit and beat the Farmington Knights 8-7 in the MAAA Conference Championship Game on Saturday.

Jaxon Campbell capped off the big inning with a 2-run single that gave the Bulldogs a one-run lead they wouldn’t relinquish. The rally began with back-to-back walks to Ben Faulkner and Bradey Buhrmester. Noah Sansoucie singled in courtesy runner Isaac Hayes. Nolan Rawson was walked, Brody Simily singled in a run, and Hudsen Dunlap drove a 1-0 pitch to right field that scored two that brought the deficit to a single run before Campbell’s breakthrough base hit.

Dunlap picked up an earlier RBI in the bottom of the first inning with a single that scored Levi Lashley.

Buhrmester homered in the bottom of the second off of the glove of Tatem Tinsley in left field.

The Knights cut an early 2-0 deficit in half when Connor Rice doubled to left and scored Colby Larkins.

It was the top of the fourth where Farmington broke through. The inning began with two straight doubles from Jack McDowell and Aiden Redmond, one that scored a run. Noah Brenon singled, Larkins walked, and Ty Wampler launched a three-run home run to left field. Farmington chased West County starting pitcher Rawson later that inning.

Farmington made it a 7-2 game in the fifth on Tinsley’s RBI single that scored Baylor Bowling.

Hudsen Dunlap got the win for West County. He pitched 3.2 innings and allowed two runs on just three hits, while striking out four batters.

AJ Robbins is tagged with the loss. He’s charged with six runs on four hits in 2.2 innings. Robbins walked five batters. Wampler started for the Knights and worked three innings allowing two runs on three hits.

West County collected its first MAAA Tournament championship since the tournament was consolidated.
