Farmington Knights Victorious in Thriller with St. Clair Bulldogs

(Farmington, MO) The Farmington Knights and St. Clair Bulldogs clashed in the Knights’ home opener at Jack Richardson Field Friday night. St. Clair opened the scoring on a Lane Sohn rushing touchdown midway through the first quarter, which was countered three plays later on a Brett Drye 87 yard rushing touchdown.

Both teams used the ground game effectively, with each team finishing with over 250 yards rushing on the night. Brett Drye led the Knights in rushing yards and touchdowns, including his second one of the night in the second quarter giving the Knights their first lead.

It would stay that way until the second half, as the Bulldogs of St. Clair took the ball to start the second half and went on a 12 minute drive, lasting the entire third quarter and ended in the fourth, on another Lane Sohn rushing touchdown, tying the game at 14.

Both teams traded short drives after that, but St. Clair’s punter fumbled the punt inside the Bulldogs’ five yard line. Farmington would recover and one play later, Brett Drye entered the end zone for the a third time on a 2 yard rushing touchdown.

St. Clair would battle back, pushing to within one after quarterback Nate Short ran 69 yards for a touchdown. Coach Brian Robbins went for two and gave the ball to Sohn this time, with the Knights stuffing him in the backfield.

The Knights would never trail after that, scoring another 64 yard rushing touchdown only minutes later.

St. Clair had one final drive to end the game, taking the ball to the Farmington 25, but was stuffed on a fourth down and 13 to seal the game for Farmington.

Farmington would win their home opener by a score of 28-22. The Knights get their first win of the season at 1-1, while St. Clair drops both of their road games to start the year at 0-2.
