Farmington, Mo. (KFMO) - The Farmington Knights picked up their first win over Sikeston in 20 years, winning 81-74 on Tuesday.
The teams traded leads in the first quarter, with the Class 5, #1-ranked Bulldogs leading 20-19 at the break. In the second quarter, Sikeston found itself plagued by fouls, allowing the Knights to get to the free throw line early and often, and eventually to take a bigger lead. Farmington led at the half, 40-35.
The Knights spent much of the second half trying to keep Sikeston down, but the Bulldogs didn't go away until the very end. Sikeston would take their final lead of the game at 73-72, but Farmington not only reclaimed their advantage, but built it back up to 7, with the dagger coming from a personal foul/technical foul combo called against Sikeston with about 8 seconds left to play. The Knights ran out the clock after the ensuing inbound, securing the win.
Farmington's win Tuesday is their first win over Sikeston since 2005. The Knights improve to 11-1 for the year and will next take on North County on Wednesday.
