Central Girls Dominant, Central Boys Win in Overtime

Park Hills, Mo. (KFMO) - The Central Rebels and Lady Rebels each picked up a win on Tuesday, with the girls defeating West County 69-36, and the boys picking up a 66-65 overtime win over Ste. Genevieve.

The Lady Rebels (11-2, 2-0) took an early lead over the Lady Bulldogs (8-6, 1-0), and never really let up. Despite an even 2nd quarter, the Lady Rebels still led 33-23 at the half. After the break, Central kicked their efforts into high gear, outscoring West County 21-8 in the 3rd and 15-5 in the 4th to take another 30+ point win, 69-36.

Central head coach Aaron Tyree liked how his team performed:

Allysa O'Connor led Central in scoring with 23, Taylor O'Connor and Mia Monges added 13 each. West County was led by Sadie Patterson's 13.

Later that night, the Central boys took to the floor, to face off against Ste. Genevieve, a matchup between two teams hovering around .500 for the season.

Like the previous matchup, Central (9-7, 1-1) and Ste. Genevieve (7-7, 0-2) played it very close until the final whistle. Although the Dragons led the majority of the game, including at one point an 11-point lead at 40-29, the Rebels continued to find ways to get back into the game. With Ste. Genevieve going cold from the field in the second half, the Rebels would eventually tie things back up at 60-60 with just over a minute left to go. With both sides coming up empty on their final possessions, the game headed into overtime.

A couple of baskets were traded in the extra period, but Justin Robinson would hit the game winning shot coming with just 21 seconds left. Ste. Genevieve opted not to take a timeout, but the Dragons lost the ball out of bounds on their final possession, giving Central the ball back to run out the rest of the clock and take a 66-65 win.

After the game, Central head coach Brad Gross said he was proud of the performance from Carson Webber, who had 13 points and earned Player of the Game honors:

In addition to Webber, Central got 18 points from Gage Albertson and 10 points from Robinson. The Dragons were led by Alex Basler and Devin Flye, who each had 18, and Jeffrey Hunter, who finished with 14.
