Potosi Man Seriously Injured, Arrested After Crash on I-44 in St. Louis County

St. Louis Co., Mo. (KFMO) -  A Potosi man was seriously injured and later arrested following a crash on Interstate 44 east of Mraz Avenue Sunday morning.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the incident occurred around 9:45 a.m. when a 2013 Nissan Altima, driven by 30-year-old Cole A. Gibson of Potosi, traveled across all lanes of traffic, struck a 2019 Freightliner semi-truck parked on the right shoulder, and overturned. Gibson was not wearing a seatbelt and sustained serious injuries. He was transported by ambulance to Mercy Hospital South.

The driver of the semi, a 25-year-old man from Fountain Valley, California, was not injured.

Later that morning, at 11:40 a.m., Gibson was arrested by the Highway Patrol at Mercy Hospital South on multiple charges, including tampering with a motor vehicle, leaving the scene of an accident, property damage, and driving while intoxicated, drugs. He was released after treatment.
