Jefferson City, Mo. (KFMO) - Missourians are being urged to stay alert for a growing text message scam involving fake toll and traffic violation fee notices. The messages claim to be from the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) or the Missouri Department of Revenue and threaten recipients to pay immediately.
Officials warn: these messages are scams.
Do not click any links. Instead, delete the message and report it. MoDOT says it will never solicit payment for tolls or traffic violations via text message.
These scams are designed to steal personal and financial information. If you receive such a message, report it to the Missouri Attorney General’s Consumer Protection Hotline at 800-392-8222 or online at ago.mo.gov.
Stay vigilant and protect yourself from fraud.
