Farmington School District Staff Member Arrested on Child Pornography Charges

Farmington, Mo. (KFMO) - A staff member at the Farmington R-7 School District has been arrested and charged with possession and promotion of child pornography, according to a letter sent to district families.

Superintendent Dr. Kyle Gibbs confirmed the arrest in a message released Wednesday, stating that the district was contacted by the Missouri State Highway Patrol and fully cooperated with law enforcement. The employee, who worked at the Truman Learning Center, voluntarily accompanied authorities for questioning and is no longer employed by the district.

“We take these responsibilities seriously and work diligently to screen all staff members through thorough background checks and fingerprinting,” Dr. Gibbs wrote. “However, even with these safeguards in place, it is not always possible to foresee every aspect of an individual's personal conduct.”

At this time, there is no indication from law enforcement that any of the alleged incidents took place on school grounds or involved students from the Farmington R-7 School District.

“The investigation is ongoing, and we are continuing to cooperate with law enforcement authorities,” Dr. Gibbs said.

District officials emphasized that the safety and well-being of students remains their top priority. Concerned families are encouraged to contact the district’s central office at 573-701-1300 with any questions.
