City of Ironton Officially Receives Missouri Blue Shield Designation

Ironton, Mo. (KFMO) - The City of Ironton has been officially recognized with the Missouri Blue Shield designation, a prestigious honor from the Missouri Department of Public Safety that highlights a city’s commitment to law enforcement and public safety excellence.

The Missouri Blue Shield Program was established in January 2025 by Governor Mike Kehoe through Executive Order 25-03. The initiative recognizes Missouri communities that actively work to reduce crime, foster collaboration among law enforcement agencies, and build lasting community partnerships focused on safety.

"Public safety is the foundation of a thriving community and state,” said Governor Kehoe. “The Missouri Blue Shield Program recognizes communities like Ironton that go above and beyond in creating places where people want to live, work, and build their futures."

Missouri DPS Director Mark James commended Ironton for its proactive approach, noting the importance of local leadership in fostering safe environments. “This program is about fostering collaboration between local law enforcement agencies and the communities they serve,” James said. “We’re proud to support cities like Ironton in building sustainable, long-term solutions for crime reduction.”

Ironton Mayor James Tuttle expressed pride in the designation, calling it a promise to continue supporting local officers and enhancing public safety. “Ensuring our officers have the resources, training, and respect they need is not just a priority—it’s a promise,” he said. “Receiving this designation is a proud moment for our city.”

Police Chief Lucas Anderson echoed the sentiment, emphasizing the professionalism and dedication of Ironton’s police force. “We are committed to making Ironton a safer place for everyone. This recognition honors the hard work of our officers and staff—and we will continue moving forward in our pursuit of public safety,” he said.

With the Missouri Blue Shield designation, Ironton joins a growing list of communities statewide being acknowledged for leading the way in public safety initiatives.
